Would you want to view your knee replacement surgery or have family members view it via a live streaming video to an iPad or a television in the waiting room? This could be available in the near future if orthopaedic surgeons opt to use it.

This dynamic technology is being unveiled this week at the annual American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons conference in San Francisco, California. This conference is the largest orthopaedic trade show and education program in the industry and is attended by more than 14,000 orthopaedic surgeons from around the world. Some feel that this technology could help to curb medical malpractice suits if a surgery was called into question.

Arthrex Inc, the company that developed the technology, feels that the system, called Synergy HD3, would enable surgeons to share their work with colleagues and educate patients about procedures. This system would allow surgeons to customize documents and transmit educational post-operative reports to patients.

While some surgeons feel that they wouldn't want to share the video with patients because of fear of potential malpractice suits, others feel that the educational part is essential in teaching future surgeons as well as educating patients.

Medical malpractice cases can be traumatic, but as a patient you need to pursue answers and consult with an experienced personal injury attorney if you feel that you have received substandard medical care. The attorney can help you figure out if you have a case and develop a plan that fits your situation and benefits you the most.

While this new technology is just an option available to orthopaedic surgeons, cost as well as the possibility of medical malpractice suits may make surgeons think twice before installing it in their facilities.
